On 19–20 May 2026, the partners of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) hosted the Mid-Term Meeting and Technical Workshop of the AHEAD Project in Thessaloniki. The hybrid event brought together consortium members to review the status of the project, share progress across the different work packages, and highlight the secondments carried out during this reporting period.

The two-day meeting opened with a series of updates covering the project’s main activities and achievements. Presentations addressed topics ranging from the AHEAD Observatory, training activities, and use cases — presented by the University of Trento — to the Methodology for Transdisciplinary Assessment of AI in Biomedicine and Healthcare, presented by CERTH. Additional sessions led by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) focused on the Assessment and Benchmarking of AI-based Applications, Dissemination and Exploitation activities, Coordination and Management, and Training, Transfer of Knowledge & Networking.

Together, these presentations demonstrated that the project continues to progress according to plan while reinforcing the importance of collaboration across disciplines and sectors.

A central highlight of the meeting was the discussion around secondments. Project members who completed secondments during this period shared the main outcomes and experiences gained through their exchanges. These interventions showcased how secondments strengthen collaboration among institutions, facilitate knowledge sharing, and contribute to integrating insights and results across the consortium. By bringing together partners from academic and non-academic sectors, the initiative continues to foster meaningful cooperation and support the development of a truly transdisciplinary community.

The second day was dedicated to a technical workshop structured around three thematic working groups focused on the observatory, indicators, and assessment methodologies.

Participants also discussed the secondments planned for summer 2026 and reviewed the findings emerging from the breakout sessions, identifying key challenges and opportunities for future work. The workshop concluded with a plenary discussion gathering insights from all participants.

The meeting closed with a productive exchange on the project’s next steps and future objectives. Consortium members reaffirmed their commitment to building a diverse, global, and transdisciplinary community capable of addressing current and emerging challenges in the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedicine and Healthcare.
